St. Thomas More Catholic High School Classroom Building

Education

Location: Lafayette, Louisiana

Size: 19,070 SF

With phase 1 of the updated master plan, designed by Abell + Crozier, came this new classroom building. The building is designed as a background building, with composition, character, and materiality reminiscent of the existing buildings on the campus. The classrooms are stacked side-by-side, flanking each side of a central corridor.
High ribbon windows allow natural light into the classrooms while maintaining wall space for classroom teaching aids, storage, and supplies. Of the 12 classrooms were designed to serve STM’s students and teachers in the special needs, or “Options” program. One classroom houses the academic portion of the curriculum, and the other classroom is
designed for “lifestyle” instruction, which focuses on preparing students for the practical, day-to-day tasks, transitioning them from high school to independent living. The classroom building is sited behind the main school building, and is organized around the future student plaza.
